This simple PSA aims to highlight the number of AIDS orphans in Africa. The segment starts with a number of young American (all Caucasian) children counting up by the million (one million, two million, etc). The children are upbeat and there is gentle happy music playing in the background. This gets up to twelve million when the twelve million child blows out the candles (which are in the shape of the number twelve) on a birthday cake. As the candles are blown out, the music suddenly stops, and is replaced with a dark, foreboding wind sound. The screen fades to black and we are told in white text "There are twelve million AIDS orphans in Africa..." -- "That's twelve million too many". Finally the website of a small Christian missionary organisation that operates an orphanage in Zambia is given.
This is a gentle PSA with little emotion. Given the tragic subject matter, I believe a segment could be created that challenges and involves the viewer a little more.
